First aid for trades and construction work

Updated 2026-08-21 · First Aid Training Penrith

For most trades and construction roles the certificate asked for is HLTAID011 Provide First Aid. It is separate from a White Card — the White Card covers general construction induction, first aid is its own unit — and plenty of sites want both.

First aid and a White Card are different things

A White Card (general construction induction) is what gets you onto a construction site. A first aid certificate is a separate nationally recognised unit. Holding one does not cover the other, and site inductions often ask about both, so it is worth knowing which of them you actually hold.

If you need the White Card as well, that is a different course and a different unit code — ask and we will point you to it rather than guess which you need.

Which unit for site work

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid, 3 hours, is the usual requirement. It includes the CPR unit, so you are covered for both, and it covers bleeding, wounds, burns and fractures alongside the medical emergencies — the injuries that actually turn up on a work site.

Some principal contractors specify a higher level of first aid for particular roles or remote work. Your site or employer sets that, so check before booking if you are being asked for something beyond HLTAID011.

Currency, and why sites check it

First aid is generally treated as current for three years, with CPR refreshed annually. Site inductions frequently check the date, and an expired certificate can hold up your start even though nothing about your competence changed.

Keep a photo of the statement of attainment on your phone. It shows the unit code, the completion date and the issuing RTO, which is what an inductor is looking for.

Where you train in Penrith

Suite 2003A, Level 2, Borec House, 29 Station Street — on Station Street, a short walk from Penrith station, with Westfield Penrith parking nearby. Handy whether you are coming off a site locally, down from the Blue Mountains line, or across from western Sydney. Students come in from St Marys, Kingswood, Emu Plains, Glenmore Park, Cranebrook, Jordan Springs, Blacktown, Richmond and Katoomba.

Getting a crew through

If you have a crew to certify, get in touch rather than booking one at a time — we can arrange a session and invoice the business rather than taking card payments from each person. Everyone still needs their own Unique Student Identifier first.

Common questions

Is a White Card the same as a first aid certificate?

No. A White Card is general construction induction. First aid is a separate nationally recognised unit. Many sites want both.

Which first aid unit do most sites ask for?

HLTAID011 Provide First Aid. Some contractors specify more for particular roles, so check with your site if you have been asked for something else.

Can you invoice the business rather than each worker?

Yes. Mention it in your enquiry and we will set up invoicing for the crew.
